Revelation of Romans
Dear brothers and sisters,
When I was fresh and saved, had just been freed by the power of the Holy Spirit, there is a scripture I would remind myself of:
Romans 6:5-11
Whenever temptation arose, I would declare that scripture and be evermore strengthened to remain faithful to the Lord. Later down the road, one of my closest friends had been faithfully believing for her sister’s salvation. When that day finally came, the first book they studied was the book of Romans.
Captivated by my friend’s determination to first study the book of Romans, and my own breakthrough by the power of that scripture in Romans, I later studied it for myself, and wow! Full of revelation and truth, it is everything I needed to know to walk out the freedom Jesus Christ already paid for.
As I studied some of the chapters, it was like the Holy Spirit took over and I understood more of the word of the Lord. Here is my most recent revelation:
Christ doesn’t free you from the law, He frees you from the consequence of breaking the law. Scripture also tells us that the law is good. It shows us what is right in God’s eyes and what we need the Spirit to fix within us.
Romans 7:12
Scripture tells us that we are not to do away with law, but we are no longer under it. Meaning that all past, present, and future sins were already paid for by the blood of Jesus. And in Christ we are now free from sin. He showed us such mercy (unfailing love) to turn us from our sin and toward him. This new covenant is not an excuse to sin but a call to repent because of the greatest love of all- Jesus Christ. Because if we don’t receive Jesus by accepting His word and obeying His commands, our failure to repent and lack of oil will forfeit our gift of eternal life and send us to the grave eternally.
A law is only a law if it has a consequence, otherwise it is merely a recommendation. In the old covenant before the sacrifice of Christ, we were bound and slaves to the law- meaning the consequence of law. In the new covenant, we are bound to Christ fulfilling the law by His Spirit.
Isaiah 43:12
This is why we can only be made righteous by faith. In the old covenant, we were made righteous by obedience which is why those who disobeyed, usually were stricken with sickness or death unless they cried out to the Lord. The new covenant stands on Jesus alone, not our works-which is why now, we cannot look at the law for our salvation. Our salvation and righteousness is found in our unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior and the fruit of our faith should be obedience.
Romans 4:4
Romans 3:23-25
How can we be sure this old covenant is powerless? It is the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Romans 6 shares the powerlessness of sin. The thing that many have submitted to, given their lives to, and even openly enjoy, is dead. You are only as good as what you serve. So if you serve demons (and their fate is death), then you can look forward to death. If you serve the Lord of lords and King of kings then you can rest assured that because the Lord of Heaven’s Armies is eternal and is living, you will live eternally and live! For so long I served sin with my addiction to pornography and masturbation. Even though I longed to be free, I gave into my sinful nature because I lacked revelation of the sovereignty and absolute authority of Jesus Christ.
Romans 7:14–23
But thank God, my dad was a praying man who taught me to pray and seek the Lord. And when I became sick of my sin, I cried out to the Lord and he answered my prayer.
Psalm 34:4
He literally broke my chains. No one laid hands on me, no one prayed over me, no one preached at me. Literally, one day I just stopped and never looked back. I can’t remember the specific day. I know for sure when I joined 3WC, I was free. I remember sharing in Culture Class, basically our new members class, what the Lord had done for me. The Lord burdened me with my testimony that I may overcome the scheme of the enemy by accepting the covering of His blood and sharing my testimony.
And now, I literally am free! Sometimes, temptation tries to knock at my door and I remind myself of Romans 6:5-11. Sin’s power is broken! I don’t serve sin, I serve Jesus Christ. And sin has no power over me, I have been given authority and dominion in Christ to live free from sin through my Lord Christ Jesus. The enemy is pathetic and wants company because he is miserable and already knows his fate. And I will not lower myself to employ evil for temporary satisfaction. In His word, God says if He is holy, I must be holy. I take that as a declaration and a commandment.
1 Peter 1:13-16
And now that I have received my Lord, my sweet Saviour, I literally am free! And what’s crazy is that I am still a slave, just not to sin. I am a slave to His Spirit. And in my bondage to Christ, I am free. Matthew 11:39
And this is why we have been saved, set free, & delivered, not to hold tightly to Jesus like a toddler does to a toy. No, we are called to share. Selfishness is not love. Love is defined by God who is a giver. He gave His son. He gives us His Spirit. He gives us provision and peace. God gives discipline. He gives wisdom. He just keeps giving. His character is the definition of love.
Matthew 10:5-8
The Lord is dealing with me and my voice. Our voice is a testament to His breath. And as long as we have breath, he commands us to worship Him. Worship is not just singing songs to the Lord, it’s a sacrifice. Paul says it best in Romans 1:9. We do not serve the Lord if we do not spread the Good News which is Jesus Christ himself.
Romans 1:3
If we are telling people about God but not Jesus, that is not Good News. If we are telling people about heaven without hell, that is not Good News. If we are expanding on grace and excluding God’s mercy, that is not Good News. The Lord God is not partial.
He commands us to go and preach to everyone. Not just the white people, not just the black people, not just the Latinos. We don’t get to reserve the Good News for people who seem pleasant and approachable. It’s also for those who are mad and angry and violent. The blood of Jesus does not show favoritism. Remember, our righteousness is not by our works but by our faith. Choosing who gets Good News is directly opposite to the faith itself. He died so that ALL who believe might not perish but have everlasting life. So we must preach to everyone and be willing to die for what we believe. It sounds extreme. And it is true. Matthew 10:28 Revelations 12:11
That is our purpose- to share Good News which is Jesus Himself. In the messiness of His love, I became consumed and no longer have peace about selfish desires. God created His son for glory. And if we are made in His image, we too, must glorify Him. How do we glorify Him? By living like Jesus, choosing to die daily as we serve the one true living Lord God. By allowing my complete self to be controlled by Him. That literally, I would lay myself on the altar in full transparency, nakedness, and vulnerability, that the Lord would reign over me. That I would be His bride and give Him full access to all of me. That I would allow myself to be completely so crazy in love with the Lord that He may do whatever He wishes without a question, doubt, or rebuttal from me. That my submission may be absolute. And that it pleases Him. That the aroma of my life would be pleasing. That I would be sweet to Him.
Ephesians 1-2
It would be great if people just accept the word of the Lord and open their ears to hear what He is saying. However, this is just not the case which means we should expect persecution and when we experience it, still serve Him fully by sharing the Good News with zeal and conviction.
Revelation 13:9-10
At the end of the day, the Lord is coming! As his words say, though it tarries it will not tarry. Every word of God proves true. Everything in the world goes against the word of the Lord. And so I can see how it might be strange, this Good News. Ultimately the world is logical and sequential. But the Kingdom of God is holy, full of order, and supernatural. He gives us grace we did not earn. Mercy we do not deserve. Freedom we did not pay for. Revelation we could not fathom on our own. Strength our human bodies could not stir up. Salvation we did not sacrifice for. Love we can never reciprocate. Blessings that don’t make sense. Healing that opposes science. And assignments that we are not qualified for by human standards. That is the Lord. He is above all humanity. He is sovereign and righteous. He is sanctified and serious. He is jealous about His relationship with you. He is holy. He is faithful. He is true. And He is angry at sin. He does not tolerate mixture. As I said earlier, he call us to be pure.
Sin is not your portion, freedom is. It is the hope of the enemy that you forfeit your freedom for the pleasures of this world: money, sex, fake power. All of which leaves you feeling utterly empty and shameful.
John 10:10
Why not accept the Lord? Literally, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. In the beginning, it seems like you are letting go of/losing everything. Oh, but on the other side of what you thought you needed is everything you didn’t know you wanted. Come to Him. Come to the Lord, He is waiting for the one he loves, you.
Isaiah 30:18
